PROGRAM
The JLSR meets on Saturday mornings for forty weeks each year, following the calendar of the Japanese academic year which begins in April and ends in March. Classes include two levels of kindergarten, six grades of elementary school, three of middle school, and two of high school. There are currently about 210 students who come from Wilmington in the east to High Point in the west and also to Fayetteville in the south.
The school meets at the Saint Mary's School (SMS), a parochial school at 900 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh. The JLSR rents classrooms from SMS, maintains its library of approximately over 3,000 volumes, and stores records and resource materials at SMS, and would like to publicly express appreciation for the generous and warm hospitality which it has enjoyed at SMS since April, 2013.
Classes meet from 8:35 AM to 13:25 PM and are divided into five 45 minutes sessions, separated by four breaks (three 10 mins and one 30 mins). The students use standard Japanese textbooks; all instruction is in Japanese.
